Re-season Your Cast Iron Skillet

Freshen up your cast iron skillet with this easy step by step tutorial. You will only need a few tools and of course, a Bernzomatic torch.

Directions

  1. Use a wire wheel and grinder to remove the rust layer, then rinse the pan with soap and water to remove any grit.
  2. Then heat the pan on your stove, either a camping stove or your kitchen stove, until the pan is smoking hot. If you are using a camping stove use the TS8000 to light the stove with either MAP-PRO or Propane.
  3. Rub in a few tablespoons of cooking oil with a paper towel to season the entire pan.
  4. Then use the TS8000 to burn in the oil finish and be sure to hit the sides and underside of the pan so everything is coated.
  5. Wipe down and repeat until you get a nice non-stick finish and re-season by rubbing in a little cooking oil after every use. The more you use the pan, the better it gets.
  6. Find your next cast iron recipe and enjoy your freshly seasoned pan!
