Wood Burn Your Furniture

Torching wooden furniture brings out the character in wood without the hassle and mess of paint and stains. Shading wooden furniture is a technique that can be done by most people using a Bernzomatic torch and just a few essential, inexpensive materials.

Directions

1. Clean the surface of the furniture to remove any old paint or varnish from the furniture. The torch can be used to remove old paint. Heat the paint with the heat of the torch until it softens, and scrape away any remnant pant with a painter’s tool or putty knife.
2. Ignite the TS8000 torch head, hold the torch approximately two to three inches above the wooden furniture. Wave the flame across the surface in the direction of the wood grain until the desired color.
3. The longer the torch is applied to the wood, the darker it will become. The torch should be moving continuously during this step.
4. Once the wood has been heated, take the steel wool and gradually go over areas that are burned.
5. Finally use a damp cloth to wipe the charred wood in the direction of the grain until any char is removed, leaving the discolored grain exposed.
6. Protect your torched surface with a finish of your choosing.
