Applying Beeswax Finish with a Torch

Video Credit: Bernzomatic Torchbearer Jon Peters

A beeswax finish on metal is a unique way to protect a metal surface against harsh elements. This finish can be done by anyone using a Bernzomatic TS8000 torch and just a few essential, inexpensive materials.

Directions

  1. Use the wire wheel brush to grind any rust or dirt from the surface of the steel.
  2. Heat up the beeswax in a hotplate, keep the wax between 180°F-200°F.
  3. Apply the beeswax to the metal surface using an old paint brush. While applying the wax use the Bernzomatic TS 8000 to work the wax into the steel.
  4. If the wax is not working with you, try heating up the metal with the torch before applying the wax.
  5. Once the metal has been coated, use a rag to run over any spots that may have excess wax

Tips

  • Read our General Safety Precautions before starting your project.
  • Read the instructions that come with your torch before beginning your project.
  • The torch flame should be blue for optimal temperature.
  • Always remove torch from fuel cylinder and store fuel in an upright position after completing your project.
